CHURCHES

There were churches in Bolindrum, Kiltilly, Ballinaberney, Brideswell, Knockaree and according to legend, at Raheen Turn.

There was also an interdenominational church established at Clohamon. Now there are two roman catholic church in the parish one in Kilrush and one in Askamore.

Brideswell

There was also a church at Brideswell,on what is now Kenny's land, close to Brideswell graveyard. There is no trace left of it now but local people point out the spot where it stood. The present church at Askamore is its successor and local lore tells us that various houses in the vicinity were used for the celebration of masses in the interim period. One of these was located in Drummond Lane.

Tobar Bride (St Brigids Well) adjoins St Brigids cemetery at Brideswell. At the well are remains of stone structures.A project for the restoration of this site commenced in February 1st 1999 with the formation of the Easca Mor-Tobar Bride Heritage Group, and work continued under the auspices of Duchas. The well was formally blessed 6th February 2000, the Millennium year by Bishop Brendan Comiskey after mass in Askamore church, and mass is celebrated there annually on the feast day of St Brigid.
