                                              Kilrush I.C.A. Guild

Kilrush I.C.A. Guild: The first meeting to form a Guild in Kilrush Parish was held in Ballyroebuck Old School on Friday, 12th June. 1970
Rev. Fr. Walter Cullen was P.P. at the time and Miss Butler, National Organizer attended. 44 ladies were present and the following committee was elected:

President: May Levingston
Vice-President: Maureen Doyle RIP
Secretary: Catherine O’Neill
Treasurer: Alice O’Neill
Grianan Representative:  Kit Boggan
Press Officer: Florrie White

Some of the ladies who attended the meeting have passed to their eternal reward, others decided that it just was not for them and some are still members. In 2005 the membership is 15.

The membership fee in 1970 was five shillings. In 2005 the cost per year is €23, excellent value for money and a good way of making new friends and learning new skills.

Activities/Events In 1983 the Guild set-up Kilrush Penny Bank and this has gone on from strength to strength. The Penny Bank has now been handed over to the Parish and is organized by a voluntary committee.
For quite a number of years we organized and run the Tea Tent for the Parish Field Day.
We also organized the Senior Citizen’s Party and Concert in Ballyroebuck Hall, but this had to be discontinued due to Insurance and Health & Safety Regulations.

  • Deacon’s Refuse Collection 1990
  • Community Alert Group 1991
  • Hand Writing Competitions for children in 5th & 6th Class in Parish Schools.

Organized Fashion Shows, Cookery Demonstrations, Cake Icing & Decoration to raise funds for various charities – St. Patrick’s Special School, Enniscorthy, Ardeen Cheshire Home, Shillelagh and Woman’s Refuge, Wexford.
Each year we organize a range of classes and events for members. All classes and demonstrations are also open to members of the local community.

  • First Aid Classes
  • Swimming/Aerobics
  • Cooking
  • Upholstery
  • Outings to places of interest throughout Ireland

The Guild meeting is held on the first Tuesday of every month in Ballyroebuck Hall at 8.00p.m. and a guest speaker or demonstrator is arranged for each meeting. New members welcome.
